SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Nebraska man who fired at an Iowa state trooper while being pursued on foot was sentenced Wednesday to 25 yeas in prison.

Anthony Walls, 27, of Omaha, was sentenced after pleading guilty to assault on a peace officer, interference with official acts, felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of assault while participating in a felony.

As part of the plea deal, an attempted murder charge was dismissed, The Sioux City Journal reported.

Walls was a passenger in a car that was stopped for a traffic violation in December in Sioux City. Prosecutors said Walls resisted arrested after the trooper discovered he had an active warrant for third-degree domestic assault.

As Walls fled on foot, he fired two shots at the trooper, who was not struck and did not return fire.
