SOUTH
AMISTAD: GOOD. Water lightly stained; 69 degrees; 43.51’ low. The activity has shifted to mostly vegetation and shallow as we haven’t had any success or heard any success in traditional deep structures. Black bass are good topwater, and Carolina rigged weighted worms. Anything less than 15 feet has been good and working close to rocks. White bass are good when moving closer to the surface and increasing feeding activity just off the drops mid-channel or lake. Catfish are fair on shrimp, chicken livers, and stinkbait dough balls, still more in the river than the main lake. Remember to stay on the Texas side of the lake unless you possess a Mexican Fishing License.
CALAVERAS: FAIR. Water stained; 66-69 degrees. Red drum remain slow. Black bass are good on topwater, crankbait, and weighted worms, mostly in afternoons as mornings are good only at daybreak. Don’t skip fishing the rip rap with crankbait. Hybrid striped bass are good with rattle traps moving quickly with baitfish and little geographical consistency. Catfish are good on stinkbait, chicken livers, and cut shad.
CHOKE CANYON: GOOD. Water lightly stained; 68-71 degrees; 21.83’ low. Largemouth bass are good on buzzbaits, jigs, plastic worms, spinners, and rattletraps. Look for flooded timber and any drops near them. White bass are fair with minnows and smaller rattle traps staying just out of the river as of now. All catfish are excellent on larger live bait and cut baits.
CORPUS CHRISTI LAKE: GOOD. Water stained; 68 degrees; 6.95’ low. Largemouth bass are good fishing creeks, rocky banks, and flooded timber. Carolina rigged worms, spinners and crankbait excel on Corpus Christie. Crappie are good on jigs in creeks and under surface cover vegetation. Catfish are good on cut bait and cheese bait.
FALCON: GOOD. Water lightly stained north and clear south; 73 degrees; 38.37’ low. Falcon appears to be picking up! There is a solid shallow bite, both on rocks and in the hardwoods has started to come around. Black bass are fair. The activity is not as much square bill and deep success as past weeks. Rage craw and chatter bait have been successful in less than 10 feet depth, mostly around 8 feet. White bass are good moving north and are the only decent deep activity you will find. Crappie are excellent. Wait to hit the grease. Fish shallower brush piles just below 10 feet. Catfish are excellent. Hit coves at their deepest using live bait and stinky bait. Remember to stay on the Texas side unless you possess a Mexican Fishing License.
MEDINA: GOOD. Water lightly stained; 71 degrees; 30.03’ low. Black bass are good fishing drops and rocks pretty exclusively on worms, crankbait, and spinners. White bass are good with Alabama Rigs off points and mid-lake. Striped bass are fair with live bait and have started moving close to the surface around 100 yards off points. Crappie are fair over brush on jigs. Catfish are fair on live bait, chicken livers, and blood baits.
TEXANA: GOOD. Water stained; 71 degrees; 1.44’ low. Largemouth bass are good. The best success is in less than 12 feet on traditional structures using worms, spinners, and crankbait. Crappie are as good in many numbers suspending around 16 feet with jigs. Catfish are good on stinkbait, cut bait, and live bait.
SOUTHEAST
BRAUNIG: GOOD. Water lightly stained; 63 degrees; Red drum remain slow. Largemouth bass are good working rip rap with crankbait. Bottom bump worms along with presenting topwater lures just outside of vegetation. Strippers are fair spotting birds or trolling live bait. Catfish are good on live bait, cut bait, and cheese bait.
B.A. STEINHAGEN: GOOD. Water stained; 63 degrees; 0.45’ low. Black bass remain good in afternoons as we are thankful for the mild weather so far this fall. Drops, coves, and points continue their success using mostly diving baits. Crappie are good on jigs in areas of vegetative cover. Sunfish are fair with jigs and crickets under docks. Catfish are good day and night on cut and prepped bait.
CONROE: GOOD. Water stained; 62 degrees; 2.10’ low. Black bass remain great with worms, spinners, topwater, and occasional live bait. Large man-made structures continue to excel while working deep structures for lunkers on sunny days. Crappie are fair on jigs shooting under docks. Hybrid striped bass are fair using rattle traps and smaller crankbait moving into deep coves. Catfish are fair on cut bait, live bait, and dough balls. Sunfish are fair with live worms, crickets, and power bait pellets.
GIBBONS CREEK: GOOD. Water stained; 62 degrees; Largemouth bass are good working the calm water of timber, creeks, and coves to find the consistent and catchable bass. Topwaters, worms spinners, crankbaits, and jigs are all worth a chance. Crappie are fair on minnows when using big structures. Catfish are fair on live bait, along with some dough pellets getting deeper every day. Sunfish are fair on cutworms near the bank and in structure.
HOUSTON COUNTY: FAIR. Water stained; 66 degrees; 0.10’ low. Black bass are good, using vegetation and brush piles as starting points to gauge your strategy daily. There have many mid-sized catches this past week, with large catches continuing to be hard to pinpoint in deep water. Crappie are good around marinas and at night on the pier on minnows. Bream and bluegill are good using live worms. Catfish are good on shad, prepped dough balls with trot making a comeback with live bait.
LIVINGSTON: GOOD. Water lightly stained; 63 degrees; 0.49’ low. Black bass are good in calmer vegetation, and creek structures out into the lake continue to hold the active bass on worms, spinners, and crankbaits. Striped bass are good fishing shad trolling mid-lake. Crappie are good on jigs above brush deeper than previous weeks below 16 feet. White bass are good off drops and still staying deep below 23 feet. Catfish are fair on live baits and stinkbait in the main river channel.
NACONICHE: FAIR. Water slightly stained; 65-68 degrees; Largemouth bass are good as days have been mild the staying in creeks and vegetation with crankbaits, spinners, and jigs. Crappie are fair on jigs on stumps and creeks. Sunfish are fair on power bait and cutworms at night under lights. Catfish are good on dough balls, cut and live bait.
RAVEN: FAIR. Water stained; 67 degrees; Largemouth bass are good on sunny days working vegetation like hydrilla with topwater, worms, and jigs. Fish submerged brush in at least 12 feet with crankbaits and spinners. Sunfish are fair on cutworms and crickets fishing under vegetation.
SAM RAYBURN: GOOD. Water stained; 66 degrees; 4.48’ low. Largemouth bass are good on crankbaits, Alabama rigs, and spinners with active fish all day long working drops, creeks, brush, and points. White bass are fair on minnows working deep over brush around 24 feet. Crappie are good on jigs in creeks. Catfish are good on live and stinkbait.
TOLEDO BEND: GOOD. Mostly clear; 64-67 degrees; 4.26’ low. Black bass are good shallow and deep, depending on structure. Shallow in 2-8 feet, use green Senokos early in the day. When fishing 25-40 feet, use jigging spoons, drop shot, Carolina Rigs, and Texas Rigs. White bass are fair, catching them as deep as 50 feet. Crappie are great but staying deep around 25-28 feet mainly on minnows and occasionally jigs. Bream are good with small jigs and crickets. Channel and blue catfish are fair on stinkbait.
PANHANDLE
CISCO: FAIR. Water lightly stained; 53 degrees; 5.36’ low. Largemouth bass are fair with improved fishing conditions in shallow water. Sunny days are great for topwater, buzzbaits, spinners, jigs, and worms. Sunfish are fair bank fishing from nightcrawlers and cutworms. Crappie are fair on jigs to over submerged brush and below surface cover. Catfish are good catching every day and night on stinkbait, nightcrawlers, chicken livers, and cut shad.
MEREDITH: FAIR. Water stained; 54 degrees; 50.84’ low. Black bass are fair with long casts over mid-depth drops between 14 and 6 feet. Walleye are slow. Crappie are fair with jigs looking for shallow structure that has good water movement. White bass are good moving shallower, mostly on points as baitfish move to mid to shallow depth. Channel catfish are fair fishing stink bait searching pretty deep.
MILLERS CREEK: GOOD. Water stained; 53 degrees; 0.18’ high. Largemouth bass are good, fishing deep structures on crankbait and worms using the north banks to avoid windy conditions. Crappie are good on jigs in timber. White bass are fair throwing Alabama rigs to attract the most attention. Catfish are fair mid-depth in coves with live, blood, and liver prepared baits.
WEST
ALAN HENRY: GOOD. Water clear 60 degrees; 3.77’ low. Black bass are good using topwaters, crankbaits, spinners, craws, and worms in timber, vegetation, rocks, and vegetation. Crappie are good with jigs in timber and feeding shallow under lights. Catfish are fair on live bait, cut bait, and stinkbait.
ARROWHEAD: FAIR. Water stained; 60 degrees; 0.15’ low. Largemouth bass are good pushing bass under docks and moving along the holes in the rip rap. White bass are fair, staying close to rocky points with Alabama rigs. Crappie are fair on jigs under docks and bridges. Catfish are good on cheese bait, stinkbait, and minnows.
COLEMAN: FAIR. Slightly stained. 59 degrees. 2.81’ low. Hybrid stripers are good on rattletraps sticking with the schools of baitfish. Largemouth bass are good fishing afternoons near docks, flats, and calmer water with worms, topwaters, and diving baits. Crappie are fair on jigs fishing under docks. Catfish are fair with stinkbait and cut bait.
FT. PHANTOM HILL: FAIR. Water stained; 60 degrees; 1.80’ low. White bass are good picking up in shallower activity around 13 feet depth off major lake points and above brush using small crankbaits and Alabama Rigs. Black bass are fair fishing rocks and drops with spinners, crankbaits, and worms. Crappie are fair preferring minnows over brush. Catfish are fair on cut shad and stinkbait throughout the lake.
HUBBARD CREEK: FAIR. Water stained; 61 degrees; 2.01’ low. Largemouth bass are good working the edges of island vegetation, and drop close to the island. Topwaters poopers and consistently reeled topwater baits work well along with crankbaits and worms. Crappie are good on jigs within creeks. White bass are fair on small crankbaits moving out from creeks. Sunfish are always fair on worms. Catfish are fair on live and cut shad.
NASWORTHY: GOOD. Water stained; 59 degrees. 0.95’ low. Black bass are good, with mid-sized catches happening shallow under 13 feet on worms, spinners, and jigs. Big fish have been hard to catch with spinners and crankbait searching deep structures. Crappie are good, favoring minnows in deep structure. White bass are fair on Alabama Rigs. Catfish are fair on live and prepped baits throughout the lake.
OAK CREEK: FAIR. Water lightly stained; 60 degrees; 3.67’ low. Largemouth bass are good with spinners, topwater, Carolina rigs among timber, rocks, and steep drops. Crappie are good on jigs and increasing on minnows in timber, among large structures and steep drops. White bass are fair off points and deep brush. Catfish are fair on trotlines, nightcrawlers, live bait, and cut bait.
O.C. FISHER: FAIR. Water stained; 61 Degrees. 41.46’ low. Largemouth bass remain fair off points, the rip rap, and among standing timber with Texas rigged worms, spinners, crankbait, and jigs. Crappie are fair in many locations like creeks and rocks on jigs. White bass are good finding mid-lake cover. Catfish are fair on stinkbait, live, and cut bait.
O.H. IVIE: GOOD. Water clear; 60 degrees; 13.20’ low. Black bass are good working northern lake drops and vegetation with worms and crankbait. Continue with the shallow search. Crappie are good on jigs staying close to large structures. Catfish are good on stinkbait, live, and cut bait. White bass are fair on points.
POSSUM KINGDOM: FAIR. Water clear; 61 degrees; 0.51’ low. Black bass are good among steep drops and raising humps on plastic worms and spinnerbaits. White bass are sporadic on Alabama rigs, jigs, and slabs. Crappie are good with jigs under deeper docks. Striped bass are fair on live shad and jigs. Catfish are good on cut shad, live sunfish, dough balls, and stinkbait, increasing at night over bobbers.
SPENCE: FAIR. Water stained; 59 degrees; 39.79’ low. Black bass are good fishing crankbaits, jigs, worms, and spinners on points and drops in less than 12 feet. White bass are fair on Alabama rigs starting to rise just a tad. Crappie remain slow. Hybrid bass are slow. Catfish are fair on live and cut bait in deeper water.
STAMFORD: FAIR. Water Lightly Stained; 60 degrees; 0.48’ high. Black bass are fair with topwater crankbaits, spinners, worms, and jigs on rocks, vegetation, and stumps. Topwater is only good in softer wind. Crappie are fair staying in the warmer water cover in north and south-facing banks. White bass are fair, moving between 14-20 feet. Catfish are fair on live bait and stinkbait.
TWIN BUTTES: FAIR. Water Stained. 58-61 Degrees. 11.68’ low. Black bass are good on vegetation, working rocks, and then significant drops with live bait, plastic worms, and crankbait covering water. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows still in the vicinity of creeks. White bass are fair on Alabama rigs and small crankbait moving shallower. Catfish are fair on live and prepped baits.
WHITE RIVER: FAIR. Water stained; 59 degrees; 24.81’ low. Drought conditions continue to be in place. Largemouth bass are fair working brush, ledges, and points on lead-weighted worms bottom bumping and spinners covering a lot of water. Crappie are fair using jigs finding in vegetation and large rocks. Walleye are slow. Channel catfish are good on live bait, cut bait, and stinkbait.
COASTAL-
SABINE LAKE: Overall conditions: GOOD. 72 degrees. Water clarity: stained with visibility two to four feet in most areas. Winter patterns will begin soon with speckled trout showing up on six to seven-foot flats with mud shell bottoms. Redfish: even though the speckled trout have scattered, the redfish will take their place along the shorelines with mud shell bottoms. The best lures are soft plastic tails and jigs. The flounder are still gathering in the ship channel at Sabine pass along the drops. Use baits like mud minnows or jigs and Gulp lures.
TRINITY BAY: GOOD. 67 degrees. Falling water temps have the speckled trout action heating up. Fishing is good under the birds. Speckled trout are good on live shrimp under a popping cork and soft plastics. Redfish are good in the marsh on live mullet, soft plastics, and topwater and will be found along the north shoreline. The flounder bite is good on mullet.
EAST GALVESTON BAY: GOOD. 70 degrees. Speckled trout are good on shrimp around the reefs or under the birds. Redfish are good in the marsh on shrimp. Small speckled trout are under the birds. Sheepshead are good along the rocks and piers on shrimp. The flounder is good along the ICW spoils and drains.
TEXAS CITY: GOOD. 70 degrees. Redfish are good around the dike on cut mullet or shrimp. Redfish and speckled trout are also good along the levee or shoreline on shrimp under a popping cork. Flounder are good on live minnow around Seawolf. Black drum are fair on blue crab around deep structure or vegetation.
WEST GALVESTON BAY: GOOD. 70 degrees. Speckled trout are great on shrimp, topwaters, or soft plastics around the reefs or shoreline or under the birds. The shell reefs around the ICW and San Luis Pass are great for redfish and flounder on shrimp under a popping cork.
FREEPORT: GOOD. 71 degrees. Redfish and speckled trout are good in the back lakes and Bastrop bay on fresh-cut mullet or shrimp. Black drum and sheepshead are good on live shrimp around the reefs. Flounder are best along the drains on mullet or minnow.
EAST MATAGORDA BAY: GOOD. 71 degrees. Speckled trout has picked up with the favorable colder weather. They are biting on live shrimp under popping corks and soft plastics, mainly in the flats. Redfish are very good on plastics and live shrimp. Flounder is good on minnows.
WEST MATAGORDA BAY: GOOD. 71 degrees. Falling water temps have the speckled trout action heating up. Bird activity is good. Speckled trout is good on live shrimp under popping corks or soft plastics. Redfish are good in the marsh on live mullet, soft plastics, and topwaters. The flounder bite is good on down south plastic in red or white color.
PORT O’CONNOR: GOOD. 72-73 degrees. Trout are excellent on live or fresh baits such as shrimp or crab in the shallow sand bars. Redfish are very good in back bays on live shrimp. Flounder are good on minnows or mullet and croakers in vegetation.
PORT ARANSAS: GOOD. 73 degrees. The bay and shorelines are good for redfish and speckled trout on shrimp, kwigglers paddle tail. The Bull redfish are fair around the jetties. Black drum are good on crab around vegetation or structure. Flounder are excellent on mullet or minnow around the jetties.
ROCKPORT: GOOD. 71-72 degrees. The shorelines and shell reefs are excellent spots for speckled trout, flounder, and redfish on shrimp. They can also be caught around the shell reefs. Pods of bait are moving and migrating, so drift the shorelines and the reefs nearest the shoreline.
CORPUS CHRISTI: GOOD. 73 degrees. The north side of the bay has been excellent for speckled trout, redfish, and black drum. Speckled trout are found in the sand flats on shrimp on popping corks. Flounder are excellent around the docks and channel edges and are good on soft plastics or minnow. Black drum are good on crab or shrimp late in the afternoon.
BAFFIN BAY: GOOD. 76 degrees. Redfish is excellent in the flats with topwater, and live bait following the mullet runs, usually midmorning. Flounder are excellent on jigs or minnow. Whether keying on the rock structures, drifting the deep edges, and fishing with lures toward the bottom or wade fishing the shallow flats and shorelines, look for concentrations of baitfish. This time of year, the speckled trout and redfish are gorging on mullet.
PORT MANSFIELD: GOOD. 75-76 degrees. Speckled trout are out on the flats south around the saucer and north around the weather station to the 2nd oil cut using kwiggler ball tail and paddle tails, topwater and gold spoons with the bigger fish coming out of, the deeper water where the sand and grass meet. Redfish are scattered but seem to be hanging in the shallows using willow and kwiggler paddle tails, gold spoons, and topwater. Flounder are good in the east cut and drains.
SOUTH PADRE: GOOD. 75-76degrees. Redfish have been good in the sand flats using fresh-cut mullet or shrimp. Speckled trout and flounder are good on shrimp, artificial, or fresh cut mullet. Black drum are good on crab around deep structure.
PORT ISABEL: GOOD. 74.9 degrees. Speckled trout are along the shoreline or in the grass flats and are best on shrimp under a cork. Redfish are also good on shrimp and will be around the shallow sand flats. Flounder is in the back marsh feeding around the drains. Black drum are good on crab or shrimp and are good around the grass.
BOLIVAR PENINSULA: GOOD. 71 Degrees. Speckled trout and redfish are in the surf on shrimp. Black drum are good on crab. Flounder are good through Rollover Pass or near the rocks on a minnow. Sheepshead are slow. The North Jetties, French Town Road, and Fort Travis Seashore Park all have areas of access from land for year-round fishing.
