BELFAST, Maine (AP) - A former Unity College employee faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony wire fraud for taking over $500,000 from the school.
Beth Bing, formerly known as Beth Safford, used her position in the college’s business office to fraudulently gain access to corporate credit cards on which she made unauthorized personal purchases, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Unity College officials said Wednesday that they were grateful for a diligent criminal investigation and a swift resolution
Bing acknowledged in the plea deal that the charges included personal travel, cigarettes, automotive repairs, various items from Walmart and a wedding dress.
According to court records, in 2017 Bing gained access to a credit card in the name of another employee and in May 2018 she got a replacement card in the name that was used for expenses including travel and utility bills for herself and her family.
In 2019, Bing gained access to two more cards in her own name that were used for personal purchases and cash advances out of state.
Bing’s sentencing has not been scheduled.
