BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has been charged with trying to kidnap a 10-year-old girl walking home from the store with her 15-year-old sister, police say.
Reynaldo Perez, 52, is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on charges of kidnapping and assault and battery, police said. It was not clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the charges.
The girls were walking near a Brockton cemetery at about 11:20 a.m. Monday when the suspect grabbed the younger girl, Brockton police Lt. Paul Bonanca told The Enterprise.
The girls screamed for help and the suspect released the victim and fled.
A neighbor called 911, and police tracked him down nearby, WBZ-TV reported.
The girls were returning home after buying some groceries for their grandmother, the grandmother told the station.
Perez did not know the girls, Bonanca said.
