BATESVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A 13-year-old boy in north Mississippi could be charged as an adult after he stabbed his 10-year-old sister.

Batesville police told WREG-TV that the attack happened Thursday in the family’s apartment.

The boy was arrested on an aggravated assault charge and taken to a juvenile detention center. The girl was taken to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, with multiple stab wounds.

Police said the decision on how to charge the boy will depend on what they learn in the investigation.

A neighbor said she heard the girl’s screams as she was arriving home from work.

“I just heard her screaming and screaming and I know it was a little child and I looked down there and was just started screaming and screaming,” Annette Tribble said.
