COLEBROOK, N.H. (AP) - One person was killed Sunday after a fire broke out in a Colebrook apartment building, according to the New Hampshire Fire Marshal’s Office.

Fire crews were called to 187 Main Street shortly after 7 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the apartment building. Six people were rescued from a porch roof, but one person was unable to escape from the building and was later found dead, the marshal’s office said.

The person’s name was not immediately released. An autopsy is expected to be done Monday.

Five residents who escaped were treated at a hospital, and one was transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for further treatment. The Red Cross is helping families who lived in the building’s six occupied apartments.

The marshal’s office and local authorities are investigating the fire.
