YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Fire crews have made more progress battling a wildfire near Yakima with nearly 1,000 people helping fight the blaze on Sunday.
The Evans Canyon Fire, which has burned about 118 square miles between Naches and Ellensburg since it started Aug. 31, was about 40% contained Sunday, the Yakima Herald-Republic reported. However, winds expected Sunday night were expected to test the containment lines that have been built around the fire.
The fire has destroyed six homes and six outbuildings. Yakima County Emergency Management Operations Director Horace Ward previously confirmed 126 people have been displaced by the fire. No fatalities have been reported.
