PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The eighth person suspected of taking part in the rape of a 16-year-old Rhode Island girl that was recorded and posted on social media turned himself in on Tuesday, police said.

Carlos Vasquez, 19, of Providence, faces charges of assault with intent to commit sexual assault and conspiracy, Providence police Maj. David Lapatin said.

He faces arraignment later in the day. It could not be determined if he had an attorney.

The girl was lured to a Providence home on the night of Dec. 20, and plied with alcohol and marijuana before she was assaulted while unconscious, police previously said.

A video of the attack was later posted on Facebook, police said, which helped lead to the suspects, all teenagers or in their early 20s. All are from Providence, except one who lives in Seekonk, Massachusetts.

Providence Chief Hugh Clements called it a “horrifying, devastating,” and “disturbing” case.

Police had a warrant for Vasquez’s arrest when the other seven arrests in the case were announced.
