LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A citywide cleanup is planned in March in hopes of picking up much of the trash that still litters the streets of Lake Charles after Hurricanes Laura and Delta.
During Spring Clean LC, organizations and groups are asked to commit to picking up litter in the city on any day in March, KPLC-TV reported.
The city is coordinating the pickup and is inviting civic and church groups, neighborhood associations, school organizations, businesses, and families to join. The city is encouraging groups to use the hashtag #SpringCleanLC on social media.
“Let’s give Lake Charles a good spring cleaning and band together to make a big impact,” Mayor Nic Hunter said. “We’re challenging groups to play an active role in cleaning, greening and beautifying our parks, shorelines, and streets. Through our Adopt-A-Spot program, nearly 50 sites have already been claimed, but we need the help of more than 100 additional groups to clean-up the entire city.”
The city said trash bags, gloves, and safety vests will be provided while supplies last. For more information or to register your group, please call 337-491-9147 or email matt.young@cityoflc.us and specify your desired pickup date and location.
