SPANISH LAKE, Mo. (AP) - An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a woman whose body was found in a car with her unharmed baby inside, St. Louis County police said.

Andrew Buckingham, 31, has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence in the death of 30-year-old Sharita Ariel Brooks of University City, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Buckingham is being held on $1 million bond.

Officers found Brooks’ body in a car Monday morning in north St. Louis County and say she had been shot several times in the head. The baby was checked at a hospital and appeared to be uninjured, police said.

Police believe Buckingham went to Brooks’ home on Monday and had her drive him, along with Brooks’ 8-month-old daughter, to Spanish Lake. During the trip, police said Brooks called a friend and said she did not feel safe.
