MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The state Department of Justice identified the three Green Bay Police officers who opened fire on a man who shot three people at a tribal casino complex.
The DOJ issued a news release Friday saying Sgt. Brian Jordan, Officer Makayla Wolfe and Officer Ben Snyder fired on 62-year-old Bruce Pofahl outside the Oneida Nation casino complex in Ashwaubenon earlier this month. Pofahl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jordan is a 21-year veteran with the Green Bay Police Department. Wolfe and Snyder each have been with the department for two years. All three officers have been placed on administrative leave while DOJ continues to investigate the incident.
According to police, Pofahl was fired from his job at the casino complex’s restaurant in March. On the evening of May 1 he walked into the restaurant, found employees Ian Simpson and Jacob Bartel at a waiter’s station and shot them at close range with a 9 mm handgun, killing them.
He then walked outside and wounded another restaurant worker, Daniel Mulligan, before the officers shot him.
Pofahl’s motive remains unclear. Court records show his supervisor at the restaurant, Elizabeth Walker, had taken out a restraining order against him after he’d been fired. Walker alleged he’d been sending her threatening messages. Brown County Court Commissioner Paul Burke granted the order but allowed Pofahl to continue to possess firearms.
