The House special committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol announced Thursday the date for its first hearing to begin unpacking its findings as its nearly yearlong probe enters its public phase.

The Democratic-led committee has marked off a prime-time 8 p.m. slot next Thursday for the proceeding, though it has yet to announce the witnesses that will appear.

“The committee will present previously unseen material documenting January 6th, receive witness testimony, preview additional hearings, and provide the American people a summary of its findings about the coordinated, multi-step effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and prevent the transfer of power,” a committee spokesperson said in an advisory Thursday evening.

The Democratic-led committee held one hearing last July, less than a month after it was formed, in which the lawmakers heard from four police officers — Pfc. Harry Dunn and Sgt. Aquilino Gonell of the U.S. Capitol Police, and Officers Michael Fanone and Daniel Hodges of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department — all of whom were present at the Capitol during the riot.

The committee has also appeared throughout the year in brief public proceedings in which the members voted to hold witnesses in contempt for failing to comply with the investigation.

The panel has reportedly reached out to several witnesses to appear in public hearings, including two people tied to former Vice President Mike Pence.

CNN reported earlier Thursday that Mr. Pence’s former chief counsel Greg Jacob and J. Michael Luttig, a former federal judge who served as private counsel to Mr. Pence, have received invitations to appear before the committee.

Mr. Pence’s former Chief of Staff Marc Short is also expected to be asked to testify, according to the network.
