All-out war has broken out in Sudan and hundreds of Africans are now dead (“U.S. suspends diplomatic operations, evacuates embassy in Sudan amid fighting,” web, April 23).

Additional deaths can be expected. The American military has safely brought out all of our diplomats and their families and deserves a great deal of credit. The Wagner Group, made up of Russian mercenaries and likely paid by China, seems to be involved.

Several conclusions can be drawn. First, Russia is bogged down in Ukraine and relying on China to use its money for the benefit of both China and Russia. Second, the expansion of Chinese power and influence is being financed by China’s increasing wealth and its appetite for world domination. Third, the Biden administration is ignoring China’s aggressive moves. Lastly, these steps are consistent with the behavior of Germany and Japan in the late 1930s, when America’s military buildup was anemic as it is today.

President Biden seems unconcerned with China’s new military base in Djibouti, which is also in East Africa and controls the southern end of the Red Sea. Since both Sudan and Djibouti border the Red Sea, control of that area would jeopardize all traffic going through the Suez Canal. Commerce, including that of petroleum, between Europe and the entire Middle East, India, China, Japan and the rest of Asia is at stake.

Mr. Biden also seems unconcerned by China gaining vast control of African nations and their natural resources. These are big steps forward for military and economic imperialism. Mr. Biden ignores the China threat at our peril.
