OPINION:
I agree with The Washington Times’ editorial board that we should “not [let] other nations unlawfully detain people on American soil; that seems like a minimum requirement to remain a sovereign nation” (“Environmentalists’ preferences make Democrats go soft on China,” web, April 27).
In fact, existing conditions show that we have already ceased to be a sovereign nation.
There are two fundamental issues in border control: national sovereignty and rule of law. Despite Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ murky meanderings, there is no border control to enforce national sovereignty. Taking names and scheduling meaningless court appearances shows that rule of law for border control does not exist. In fact, the sham court-schedule process itself “legalizes” the continuing trespass.
American is no longer a sovereign nation that respects the rule of law. The rule of law issue extends far beyond the border. We are — and will continue to be — living a national catastrophe.
