Authorities have identified the man suspected of killing seven people in California’s second mass shooting in two days.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said Zhao Chunli, a 67-year-old Half Moon Bay resident, is in custody Monday evening.
Monday’s rampage involved two related shootings, at a mushroom farm and at a trucking firm in Half Moon Bay, a coastal community south of San Francisco.
Dave Pine, president of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors told reporters that four people were killed at the farm and three at the trucking business.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the locations were connected, but Mr. Pine said Mr. Zhao worked for one of the businesses and called him a “disgruntled worker.”
According to the sheriff’s office, Mr. Zhao drove himself to a police substation and turned himself in.
The weapon used in the two shooting incidents was found in his vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
The Half Moon Bay shootings came two days after 72-year-old Huu Can Tran killed 11 people and injured nine others in an attack on a Lunar New Year’s celebration in Monterey Park just outside Los Angeles.
“At the hospital meeting with victims of a mass shooting when I get pulled away to be briefed about another shooting. This time in Half Moon Bay. Tragedy upon tragedy,” tweeted California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
