New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will have to pay for missing mandatory practices.

Under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement with the Players Association, players with unexcused absences for these minicamps can face a fine of $16,953 for the first missed day, $33,908 for the second and $50,855 for a third, according to NFL.com.

Rodgers missed all but the first four plays of the Jets’ 2023 season with an Achilles’ heel injury. Before minicamp, he attended the team’s offseason voluntary workouts as well as the team’s photo day and a physical Monday, according to CBS Sports.

Rodgers “and I spoke before [organized team activities] started. He’s been very good in communication. He’s been here the entire time. It’s inexcused, but he had an event that was very important to him, which he communicated,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said at a Tuesday press conference.

Asked again Wednesday about Rodgers’ absence, Saleh said, “Aaron and I are on the exact same page. There’s no issue between Aaron or his teammates, for that matter. So like I said, we addressed it yesterday. It’s more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside. And that’s about it.”

Saleh didn’t say what event Rodgers attended instead.
