OPINION:
Two days after I voted for Larry Hogan in the Maryland Republican primary, he announced that he is 100% pro-abortion (“’Pro-choice’ Hogan vows to restore Roe abortion protections in Senate,” web, May 16).
The voluminous material I received from Mr. Hogan during the primary campaign did not mention abortion, but the first thing he speaks about after he is chosen as the Republican nominee is that he will work for a national law to protect abortion “rights”?
Mr. Hogan is an ambitious man (he would really like to be president) and is willing to drop principle in favor of political expediency. He is convinced that by endorsing unlimited abortion he will gain more votes from Democrats than he will lose from pro-life Catholics and evangelicals, who will now vote third-party or leave the Senate line vacant in November. Will Mr. Hogan be the new Maryland senator, or a Republican David Trone?
