OPINION:
Rogue judges and lawfare won’t prevail. Nor can DEI, wokeism, transgenderism or mainstream media gaslighting. Tails may try, but they can’t wag dogs forever.
As common sense takes hold and the flood waters return to the riverbed, let’s add a long-overdue correction: restoring the word “liberal” to its proper meaning.
“Sanders-AOC ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ tour draws crowds, brings hope to anti-Trumpers” (Web, April 17) refers to AOC as a “liberal.” The word comes from “libertas,” the Latin for freedom.
This label, as used, is a lie, as today’s so-called “liberals” impose elite privilege, double standards, group identity and autocratic rule that is no different from feudalism in the Dark Ages. Far from being real liberals, these people are in fact reactionaries. Some of them are outright sociopaths who say assassinating President Trump is justifiable.
Since many of them also claim to be “progressives” (which is just more gaslighting), we could call them “retrogressives.” That might help reserve the honorable term “liberal” for people of integrity, like Thomas Jefferson, the most liberal of our founders.
