Actress Helena Bonham Carter has abruptly left Season 4 of HBO’s “The White Lotus” after only four days of filming, multiple news outlets report.
After Ms. Carter shot her first scenes for the series, creator Mike White decided to rewrite her character and find a new actress.
“The character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” HBO said in a statement.
Production is taking place in France, with the season set during the Cannes Film Festival.
The network expressed hope to work with Ms. Carter again on a future project.
Ms. Carter is known for her roles in “The Crown,” “Corpse Bride” and “Big Fish.” She was nominated for an Oscar for her roles in 2001’s “The King’s Speech” and 1997’s “The Wings of the Dove.”
Previous seasons of “The White Lotus” have taken place in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand. The anthology series chronicles the deeds and misdeeds of guests and workers at a fictional resort chain.
