OPINION:
America isn’t simply a plot of land — it’s a spirit of freedom and individualism. And reminding Americans of that core concept is key to keeping communism at bay.
You can’t have communism if citizens understand their rights and liberties come from a higher power, said Lawrence W. Reed, author of the new “Born of Ideas: How Principles, Faith and Courage Forged America.”
Likewise, communism grows when individuals forget the proper role of government — that it’s to serve, not subjugate, Reed said.
If America is to stay free, and a nation of individualism, not collectivism — if America is to reject the so-called “warmth of collectivism” that is the lie of the communists and socialists — then American citizens must stand strong against the indoctrination of the left that’s taken root and spread like wildfire through academia.
The places of higher learning in this country have sold out to socialists and communists who want nothing more than to destroy all that’s exceptional about this country, Reed said.
Churches are to blame as well, he said.
