Paramount Pictures has closed a deal for the U.S. rights to adapt the original screenplay for “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” news outlets report.
The film production company won the licensing rights from the estate of late filmmaker Wes Craven, including his widow, Iya Labunka, and their son, Jonathan Craven.
This marks the first project for Paramount Primal, a new genre label led by producers J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules.
The untitled film is set in the original film’s world, but plot details and a release date for the screenplay haven’t been revealed.
Mrs. Labunka, Mr. Craven and Marc Toberoff will produce, while Mr. Lifshitz and Mr. Margules will be executive producers.
The movie franchise, which began with Craven’s 1984 film, centers on serial killer Freddy Krueger, who hunts victims in their dreams and became a horror icon known for his scarred face and metal-clawed glove.
