Republicans have chosen Dallas for September’s first-of-its-kind midterm convention, according to Senate candidate Ken Paxton.
Paxton, the Texas attorney general who’s the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, told listeners in a Monday tele-town hall that the Republican National Committee picked Dallas for the convention ahead of the November elections.
“I know that we are having the midterm convention in Dallas in September, Mr. Paxton said, according to remarks first reported by CNN.
He also said President Trump is expected to speak at the event.
Republicans have been planning a midterm convention for several months.
The parties typically hold conventions during presidential election years, but the GOP is hoping a midterm confab will boost voter turnout and enthusiasm.
The Washington Times reached out to the RNC, which hasn’t announced any formal plans.
The committee’s chairman, Joe Gruters, said in March the party would hold a midterm convention before the Nov. 3 general election.
“There’s a very short window of doing it after the last primary ballots have been cast and before the general election. But yes, we’re very much moving forward with it,” he said on NewsNation.
Mr. Trump has backed the idea for months.
“The Republicans are going to do a Midterm Convention in order to show the great things we have done since the Presidential Election of 2024. Time and place to be determined. Stay tuned, it will be quite the Event, and very exciting!” he said on social media.
