The Obama Presidential Center’s grand opening ceremony in Chicago on Thursday will feature a star-studded lineup including Bruce Springsteen, U2’s Bono and the Edge, and Stevie Wonder.
The Obama Foundation announced the lineup creatively on Instagram through a simulated group chat, showing former President Barack Obama adding the performers to his phone contacts and noting that the festivities will livestream at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday.
The ceremony will also feature former first lady Michelle Obama, and other artists including Christina Aguilera, Common, Eddie Vedder, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Marc Anthony, Marsai Martin, the Roots, and Tems.
According to the center’s website, “The livestreamed event brings together global leaders, artists, changemakers, and citizens for an inspiring celebration of the values that shaped the Obama presidency and continues to inspire people everywhere to believe in their power to create change.”
The Obama Presidential Center’s 19.3-acre campus in Chicago’s Jackson Park on the South Side of the city features a museum, library, Oval Office replica, sky room, dining options and community amenities. It will officially open to the public on Friday.
Mrs. Obama was born and raised on the South Side, while Mr. Obama spent years working there as a community organizer.
