Country music star Garth Brooks is mulling a sale of his music catalog for over $1 billion, according to new reports.

Sources familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal that Mr. Brooks’ possible sale would include the rights to his songwriting and recorded music.

The unnamed sources told the Journal that Mr. Brooks has said the  catalog’s value ranges from “high $1 billion range to more than $2 billion.”

Getting a price in that range would surpass two Sony music acquisitions from 2024: the company’s purchase of Queen’s catalog for over $1.3 billion and half of Michael Jackson’s catalog for $600 million.

A sale in the range Mr. Brooks, 64, believes his catalog is worth would also rocket him into the ranks of the richest musical performers in America.

Currently, rap mogul Jay-Z sits at No. 1 with a net worth of over $2.5 billion. Mr. Brooks has a net worth of around $400 million, putting him behind Dolly Parton’s $650 million, according to country music news site Taste of Country.

The “Ain’t Goin’ Down (’Til the Sun Comes Up)” and “Friends in Low Places” singer tops the Recording Industry Association of America database by total albums sold, at 200 million, and most albums certified as diamond for sale of 10 million or more copies, at 10.

No. 2 in both categories are the Beatles. They had six diamond albums and 183 million albums sold.
