The New York Police Department said officers arrested a homeless man who stabbed six people at Penn Station on Sunday.
The man, whose identity wasn’t disclosed, was arrested around 7 p.m. Sunday after he wounded the victims inside the station, authorities said.
One victim had serious injuries and four others had moderate to minor wounds, police said. A sixth person was taken to a hospital, but their condition was not immediately shared.
None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, authorities said.
Police didn’t say what preceded the attack or if the victims were targeted by the man, but investigators suspect he suffers from mental health issues. No charges were announced as of Monday.
“My heart is with everyone who was injured, their loved ones, and all those shaken by this unacceptable violence. I’m wishing each of the victims a full and speedy recovery,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted on X.
Police ruled out terrorism as a motive, as the city prepares to host President Trump for Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
The New York Knicks will host the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden on Monday evening, which sits just above Penn Station.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the president’s arrival will prompt massive street closures and intensive security around the arena.
“Starting at 4 p.m., no one will be allowed inside the secured area unless they have a ticket to the game, a train ticket, they are going to a business inside the area, they have credentials or they have some other authorized reason to be there,” Commissioner Tisch said.
