President Trump on Tuesday said higher prices from the war in Iran are “peanuts” compared with the goal of keeping a nuclear weapon out of the regime’s hands.

Mr. Trump weighed in on the economic squeeze from the war, particularly higher gas prices, while he toured the construction of his White House ballroom.

“We want to see the world exploded? You want to see a problem?” Mr. Trump said. “This is peanuts, and I appreciate everyone putting up with it for a while; it won’t be much longer.”

Democrats and other critics say Mr. Trump launched a war of choice with Iran and that he is acting like an out-of-touch billionaire by dismissing higher gas prices.

The U.S. average price of a gallon of gas stood at $4.53 on Tuesday, a 52% increase from when the war started, according to the AAA motor club.

Mr. Trump said prices will come down sharply this year due to pent-up supply when the war ends.

“Frankly, there is so much oil out there,” the president said.

He also said nations are relying on U.S. ports for oil, benefiting the nation.
