Although Kelly Sadler believes Republican voters, rather than President Trump, control the GOP (“Republican voters want team players,” Web, May 18), she still seems to suggest that every Republican lawmaker in Congress must align with the MAGA agenda or else be a leftist and a traitor.

The so-called MAGA agenda seems to have devolved into whatever Mr. Trump wants it to be. When running for president, he campaigned on an anti-war, “America First” movement. Now, all of a sudden, “MAGA” seems to mean supporting the war in Iran and giving money to foreign countries such as Argentina.

I also find it ironic that Ms. Sadler criticizes Sen. Bill Cassidy’s opposition to the MAHA agenda. I identify as a big-time supporter of the MAHA movement, but Mr. Cassidy’s position on vaccines seems to be almost the exact same as that of his opponent, Rep. Julia Letlow.

Although Mr. Cassidy is a strong supporter of the current vaccine schedule, he vehemently opposed any vaccine mandates under President Biden’s watch. Likewise, Ms. Letlow does not support vaccine mandates, but she strongly urged people to get the COVID-19 vaccine once it was available to the public.

Ms. Letlow does not seem to be any more “MAHA” than Mr. Cassidy, and Ms. Sadler’s criticism of him appears to really only be because he is “anti-Trump.”

I find it disturbing that Ms. Sadler wants to kick out anyone in the Republican Party who dares question the MAGA agenda or Mr. Trump’s motives. I do not see how limiting the GOP to Trump loyalists will help us win any more votes this November.

Additionally, I disagree that the Republican base is controlling the MAGA movement. I am a Republican and know many other people in the party who oppose Mr. Trump’s calls for regime change, war and making abortion legal in half the country.
