OPINION:
In her op-ed, “Dangers of posting pictures of your child online” (Web, May 19) Teresa Huiza writes, “Child predators are using artificial intelligence platforms to digitally ‘undress’ real children and place them in sexually graphic images and videos.”
She’s right that AI is being used in dangerous ways, especially against children. Predators are using AI apps to create fake nude images from innocent family photos posted online. But parents should not have to stop sharing pictures of birthdays, sports events or family memories because criminals misuse technology.
The real issue is not families posting photos, but predators and companies failing to enforce stronger protections.
Law enforcement must continue arresting and jailing offenders who create or share these AI-generated images. Congress should also require AI companies to block the creation of sexualized images of children.
Children and all human beings deserve privacy, safety and protection online from exploitation and abuse.
