Los Angeles Police Department officers serving search and arrest warrants on Wednesday found a cache of illegal fireworks.
The cops went to the South L.A. house in question at about 6 a.m. to serve the warrants related to domestic violence involving a gun.
“They get inside the house, and they see the fireworks — every room in the house was stacked with fireworks,” Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell told KABC-TV.
The police issued an evacuation order, arrested the initial suspect for domestic violence and detained others at the scene over the fireworks, according to KTLA. The police have not publicly named any of the people arrested or detained.
Detectives said the fireworks taken out of the home were commercial grade, according to KTLA, though they were unsure whether the fireworks were there for personal use or future sale.
The exact weight of the seized fireworks is unknown. They were worth at least $150,000 in total, according to KTTV.
There were enough fireworks at the home to fill several trucks. After being seized, they were handed over to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection so the fireworks could be disposed of safely, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Evacuation orders in the surrounding area were lifted by about 3 p.m., according to KTLA.
