Vice President J.D. Vance says there is a “chance” he won’t run for president in 2028, citing his young family.

Mr. Vance is considered a natural fit for the race because of his current job and rising-star status in the GOP at age 42.

But nothing is guaranteed, he told a CBS News town hall in Michigan on Saturday.

Asked if he’d sit out the 2028 contest, he said: “Of course, there’s a chance.”

“We’ve got four little kids. My wife has never loved politics. She loves public service,” Mr. Vance said.

Mr. Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, had a fourth child, Alec, in the summer. Their other three children are Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.

Mr. Vance said he is not in a rush to decide whether he runs.

“Whenever it comes up, it’s always, ’Let’s figure it out after the midterms,’” Mr. Vance said. “The way that I think about life, big life decisions, my wife will tell you this, I’m a procrastinator. I hate thinking about it.”

Mr. Vance is considered the early front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination in 2028.

RealClear Polling has Mr. Vance up by double digits in a hypothetical matchup against other likely candidates, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
