See the surveys. Peel back the layers of the polls. And read the tea leaves on the trend of America’s growth of socialism, and it’s clear: The Democratic Socialists of America and its accompanying far-leftist movement are filled with college-educated youth who’ve been blessed with opportunities and resources.
It’s a failure of schools to teach proper civics, said Nicholas Giordano, professor of political science at Suffolk Community College, host of The PAS Report podcast and a fellow at Campus Reform’s Higher Education Fellowship.
Giordano said he gives his students a basic civics quiz at the start of his courses, with questions that range from the number of branches of government to the names of key political leaders — and the vast majority of them fail.
Without a properly educated citizenry, filled with people who understand the roots of American freedoms and the basic ideas of the Founding Fathers, liberty cannot last, Giordano said.
But while education is important, the real danger to America’s future liberty is the tear-down of the family unit, he said.
