The incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. and involved an unidentified Hispanic man caught in the recycling truck compactor that was operating in the Aspen Hill area, police said. The victim had reached into the compactor to clear it and the truck driver attempted to help the co-worker, Detective Patrick McNerney said.
Officials of the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Act were called to determine whether unsafe work practices were a factor.
The death appeared to be an accident, a police spokeswoman said.
