Northeast D.C. woman charged in fatal stabbing

A Northeast woman has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a neighbor with whom she frequently fought, according to police and court records.

Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department charged Stephanie Lawson, 44, of the 400 block of 16th Street Northeast, with second-degree murder in the death of Karen Jordan, 49, according to an email from the department’s First District.

Police officers responded to the apartment complex about 9:45 p.m. Saturday to a report of a stabbing. Ms. Jordan was found with a stab wound and taken to a hospital where she died, police said.

Police arrested Ms. Lawson on Sunday morning.

According to D.C. Superior Court records, Ms. Jordan sought a temporary restraining order against Ms. Lawson in June after filing a complaint of assault and battery. The restraining order was denied after neither woman appeared in court. Ms. Lawson was expected in court on a simple assault charge in September.
