Oilers sign No. 1 pick Nugent-Hopkins

EDMONTON, ALBERTA (AP) - The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on a three-year NHL entry level contract.

The deal was completed Saturday with Nugent-Hopkins, who was chosen No. 1 overall by the Oilers at last month’s NHL draft. He will participate in the team’s development camp that begins Monday.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound British Columbia native was also drafted first overall by Red Deer of the Western Hockey League. He made his debut with the Rebels as an underage player in the 2008-09 season when he had six points in five games.

The following season, Nugent-Hopkins had 24 goals and 41 assists in 67 games and was chosen as the WHL’s rookie of the year.
