Allen raises $900,000-plus in 3rd quarter

Senate candidate George Allen, Virginia Republican, raised more than $900,000 during the months of July, August and September, his campaign announced Friday.

Since entering the race in January, Mr. Allen has raised $3.5 million and has $1.8 million on hand to start October. He had raised $1.5 million in the first quarter and $1.1 million in the second, and has devoted much of his recent time to campaigning for candidates in the 2011 state legislative elections.

“Susan and I are heartened by the incredible generosity and support that we continue to receive as we campaign to bring Virginians voices and values to the U.S. Senate,” Mr. Allen said in a statement. “Our strong grassroots team is working hard and it’s invigorating to see the momentum build as we grow stronger by the day.”

Mr. Kaine, the likely Democratic nominee in the race to replace retiring U.S. Senator Jim Webb raised $2.2 million in the second quarter and had $1.8 million on hand, but has yet to report his third-quarter figures. The filing deadline for the third quarter is October 15.

Meanwhile, Tea Party and Republican candidate Jaime Radtke collected over $116,000 in donations, bringing her total amount raised to more than $370,000. Her campaign noted that she had received donations from more than 1,700 individuals.

“Our momentum is building as more Virginians realize career politicians like George Allen and Tim Kaine got us into this mess, and they’re not going to make the spending cuts necessary to get America going again,” Ms. Radtke said. “Senator George Allen voted to increase federal government spending by 46%. We cannot afford to send him back for more.”
