BOSTON (AP) - Tampa Bay Rays left-hander David Price has left a start against Boston with a bruise after taking a line drive off his right shoulder.
In the third inning Sunday, Mike Aviles hit a hard shot up the middle that bounced off Price’s chest. The ball caromed to the third baseman, who threw Aviles out for a 1-5-3 putout.
Price was looked at by trainers, but he remained in the game. He also pitched the fourth inning before leaving for what the team said was precautionary reasons.
The Rays led 6-2 when Price left the game. He was not eligible for the win.
