Ambulances transported eight people to hospitals for minor injuries after a van struck a Metrobus in Northwest Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 10:22 a.m. at Vermont Avenue and U Street Northwest, said Metropolitan Police Department Officer Billy Allen.

The 96 bus was en route to the Capitol Heights Metro station when a van hit the rear portion of the bus, said Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority spokesman Philip Stewart.

Immediately following the crash, Vermont Avenue was closed from Florida Avenue to U Street. Traffic on U Street was being diverted on 10th Street and on 9th Street.

Mr. Stewart said all bus routes were operating as usual, though travelers can expect minor delays.
