The pro-gay Respect for Marriage Coalition has launched a $1 million media campaign, complete with full-page newspaper ads and a television bit with President Obama, to rally for legislative reform.
The television commercial also will feature former first lady Laura Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Politico reports. The ad doesn’t feature new interviews with the politicos, but rather excerpts from past televised statements, Politico says.
The coalition said the aim of the campaign is to give voice to pro-gay views that come from all political sides, Politico reports.
One quote in the television spot from Mrs. Bush: “When couples are committed to each other and love each other, then they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has,” Politico reports.
