A Secret Service dog fell to its death Saturday night in New Orleans while doing a sweep of a multistory parking deck next a hotel where Vice President Joseph R. Biden was speaking.
The dog was working in the Premier Parking garage on Iberville Street adjacent to a Ritz-Carlton where Mr. Biden was hosting a fundraiser for Sen. Mary L. Landrieu. New Orleans police say the dog fell around 6 p.m.
Agents rushed the the Belgian Malinois to a Metairie veterinary hospital in a motorcade, but veterinarians were unable to revive it.
Secret Service spokesman Max Milien told CNN the death was a “tragic accident” that has never happened before.
