Bucks GM: Skiles out as coach, Boylan to fill in

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Scott Skiles is out as Milwaukee Bucks head coach and the team says assistant Jim Boylan will take over for the rest of the season.

Bucks general manager John Hammond made it official Tuesday.

Skiles was a hard-nosed, defensive-minded coach but he sometimes had difficulty meshing with a roster built around volume shooters Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis. He and Hammond both said his departure was a mutual decision.

Skiles had a 162-182 record in five seasons with Milwaukee, with one playoff appearance. He is 443-433 as an NBA head coach over 12-plus seasons.

The 57-year-old Boylan has been the lead assistant coach for the Bucks the past four seasons. The Bucks are 16-16 and have lost four straight headed into Tuesday night's home game against Phoenix.
