HOPE, Ind. (AP) - Plans to raze a Hope museum that honors rural mail carriers are being postponed until spring.
The Indiana Rural Letter Carriers Association Museum was scheduled to be demolished as part of a $100,000 town square beautification project after the three-day Hope Heritage Days festival in September. But The Republic reports (https://bit.ly/11qKty0 ) organizers hadn’t found a location to temporarily house museum artifacts, and the demolition was postponed.
The artifacts housed in the nearly 40-year-old museum include two enclosed mail delivery carriages that are believed to have been made by the Neligh Co. of Hope and a cash and supply box belonging to Hope carrier E.J. Spaugh.
The current building lacks climate control and is prone to insect infestations.
