HILLSBORO, Ohio (AP) - A judge says a civil complaint alleging misconduct by a southwestern Ohio mayor who’s also a veteran standup comedian may be moot.

The complaint against Mayor Drew Hastings alleges misconduct involving a letter submitted to get a $500 refund of a vacant building fee.

The Times-Gazette of Hillsboro reports a separate criminal probe also involves allegations that Hastings had building materials and carpet from his private properties dumped into city trash bins.

The paper reports (https://bit.ly/1mAJkyE) a Highland County judge told attorneys Wednesday he is “leaning” toward ruling the complaint against Hastings moot, based on case law and the lawsuit’s timing.

Hastings calls the refund allegation “ludicrous” and says he looks forward to “refuting” the trash issue.

The judge scheduled another hearing for Jan. 4 on the civil complaint.
