ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Activists are pushing to have a voice in how police body cameras in Rochester are used.
The Rev. Lewis Stewart tells the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (https://on.rocne.ws/1Haah1W ) that the city might as well not use the body cameras if it doesn’t implement the right policies.
The police department announced an agreement last year to use body cameras, but it’s still working out how the devices will operate.
Stewart says he wants the devices to record most interactions with the public. He hopes to meet with Mayor Lovely Warren to discuss his concerns.
A city spokesman says officials are working on details of a process to discuss body cameras with the public.
Officials hope to conduct field testing on cameras in September and hire a vendor by December.
