OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford is in Oklahoma City to welcome some of the state’s newest American citizens.
Lankford will speak at a naturalization ceremony at the Oklahoma City Federal Courthouse Friday. Oklahoma’s junior senator plans to applaud them for their successful immigrant journey.
Lankford, a Republican former congressman from Oklahoma City, toured flood damage in Tishomingo during a visit to southern Oklahoma Thursday. During the previous 72 hours, Oklahoma and Texas have seen record-setting rain falls that have damaged homes, businesses and roadways and even led to 21 deaths in the two states.
Lankford says Oklahoma is no stranger to severe weather, but it’s still hard to view the devastation and damage caused by flood waters. He says neighbors, churches and the state and federal governments will help residents recover.
