SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Though Gov. Kate Brown did not veto any bills after the last legislative session many different types of people asked her to.
The Statesman Journal reports (https://stjr.nl/2bYyyCr ) that according to emails from the Governor’s Office, lobbyists, policy advisers and private citizens were calling for vetoes on at least four bills passed in 2016.
Veto inquiries focused on a bill that removed the gray wolf from the state endangered species list, one that banned rent increases during the first year of month-to-month tenancies, a senate bill that changed unemployment insurance for school employees and a bill that limited votes on boundaries of home rule cities.
The bills had different supporters. Mostly environmental groups called for a veto on the wolf bill, where citizens wrote in about the home rule cities rules.
