    The organization planning to build an Islamic community center near the World Trade Center said the imam who has been the public face of the project, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, will be playing a reduced role in the facility.

    Imam says 'exploring all options' on NYC mosque

    The imam leading the effort to build an Islamic center and mosque near the World Trade Center site said Monday that a resolution to the raging debate over its location is being examined.

    EDITORIAL: Build the Ground Zero Mosque, or else...

    Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, mastermind of the Ground Zero Mosque, warns that moving the proposed structure somewhere less controversial would generate a barrage of negative press in Muslim countries. America is regularly demonized in that part of the world anyway, and Islamic radicals already hate this country. A mega-mosque in Manhattan won't change that.

    MOWBRAY: Muslim cleric's mantra

    Inflaming an already heated debate, the imam behind the proposed Ground Zero Mosque claimed in a CNN interview Wednesday that moving the site of his project would be a victory for "the radicals." Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf's statement was steeped in irony, though, as the dangerous narrative he predicts would result from moving the mosque - that "Islam is under attack" from the U.S. - is precisely the story line he has put forth himself multiple times since Sept. 11, 2001.
