Last night at MCI Center

SEEN AND HEARD

Among a bevy of signage, one placard stood head and shoulders above the rest in the creativity category. The malicious winner read: “Brokeback Mountain…eers.” The overwhelming loser was held by a young lady and read: “Darell, Marry Me?” Hmmm, probably not. Proposals are usually more effective when you spell the intended’s name — Darrel Owens — correctly.

BY THE NUMBERS

15:28 Remaining in the second half when West Virginia attempted the first free throw of the game for either team. Only five total fouls were called in the first half, and Georgetown attempted a season-low five free throws. Asked after the game whether he would be sending a copy of the tape immediately to Big East head of officiating Art Hyland, John Thompson III replied: “That’s a very good question. That’s all I’m going to say about that.”

QUOTABLE

“That is one terrific basketball team. The way they played in that first half was just unbelievable. We didn’t have any answers for it, and I’m sitting there thinking to myself, ‘Wow, that’s why they beat Duke.’ In the second half, they just missed shots, and a lot of them were pretty good looks. That’s just basketball.”

— West Virginia coach John Beilein on the Hoyas.
