MCI Center is getting a new name. But don’t worry, people can still call it the Phone Booth if they want.

The arena that is home to the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics and Georgetown soon will be renamed Verizon Center now that Verizon has completed its acquisition of MCI.

“We have enjoyed our affiliation with MCI, but we welcome Verizon as our new corporate partner and namesake,” said Susan O’Malley, president of Washington Sports and Entertainment.

The name change is expected to take place in the first quarter of this year, though no date has been set. The eight-year-old arena also will be getting new logos and graphics on the exterior, which could mean a switch from the arena’s trademark orange and purple to Verizon’s red, black and white.
