Last night at Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla.

SEEN AND HEARD

South Florida features by far the Big East’s best dance team (forgive the oxymoron) — and the league’s worst students by an equally wide margin. The long-suffering locals were a bad mix of the crude, unknowledgeable and creatively challenged. They spent all evening harassing John Thompson III with inane references to his father and actually started the shockingly derivative chant, “You [stink] at life,” when Georgetown center Roy Hibbert toed the line for a pair of second-half free throws.

BY THE NUMBERS

189 3-pointers for Georgetown this season, a school record. The Hoyas made two 3s last night to eclipse the old mark of 188 established by the 1995-96 squad that eventually advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament behind the explosive backcourt duo of Allen Iverson and Victor Page.

4 Uncontested layups missed by the Hoyas on backdoor cuts over the game’s first 30 minutes. Despite the sickness and sluggish play of Jeff Green and the entire team’s obvious rust after a week off, the Hoyas likely would have prevailed had they simply converted their layups and free throws (seven misses).
