Dodgers 10, Nationals 9

VERO BEACH, Fla. — The pitching woes continued for Washington. Right-handed reliever Chris Schroder could not protect a two-run lead in the ninth, allowing three runs on four hits in a third of an inning.

Right-hander Jermaine Van Buren, who came on for Schroder, surrendered a game-ending single to Larry Bigbie.

The Nationals took the lead three different times. They appeared to be in good shape after Abraham Nunez’s solo homer in the eighth and Ronnie Belliard’s solo shot in the ninth put them up 9-7.

Washington left-hander Chris Michalak made his first spring start after coming out the bullpen in two other outings. Michalak allowed two runs on four hits in 21/3 innings. Right-hander Colby Lewis suffered his second consecutive bad outing, allowing four runs on five hits in 21/3 innings.

OVERHEARD

“It was a designed play. It was my mistake, [and] I shouldn’t have thrown it. The runner wasn’t off far enough. It was a stupid spring training mistake to go ahead and throw that ball.”
